Sunday Waffles

I had one of the most amazing days of my entire life. We pulled into a tight anchorage at Compass Cay last night and found ourselves all alone with one other catamaran. From a distance, it appeared a family with kids my age. Dad and I decided to paddle board over and say hello. Wade and Gage came out and met us on the transom with a very friendly hello. I asked them about the name of their boat “Sunday Waffles.” I thought it was a very unique name and wanted to know the meaning. The father, Wade, told me they have waffles for breakfast every Sunday. Lucky enough for us, it was Saturday night and they invited us over for waffles the next morning.

8:56am was the exact time I woke up and by 9:10am Dad and I were enjoying some amazing waffles. Seriously, they were some of the best i’ve had. For what felt like 10 minutes, we started sharing stories and talking about our lives back home. These 4 kids from Utah were some pretty cool people. Gage, Eden and I, the oldest of the bunch, immediately hit it off. 2 hours later (actually 2 hours), we planned an exciting day of snorkeling and walking to a natural bubble bath known as “Rachel’s Bath.”

Snorkeling with my new friends, in and out of caves and a few feet away from barracuda was so much fun. Nothing else in the world seemed to matter to me except looking for fish, which was pretty easy to do since I was surrounded by them. Rachel’s Bath was absolutely stunning. The walk through the mangrove nursery and swimming in nature’s hot tub was very relaxing. We walked back and built and sand castle together before it was time to go. The parents practically dragged us off the beach, none of us wanted to leave.

Sunday Waffles was now headed South, we are on our way North. From there home in Utah to there boat in Ft. Lauderdale, they will spend the next 2 years traveling around the world, experiencing new places and exploring beautiful parts of the world. I have to say, I’m pretty jealous and almost hoped on there boat last minute. I hope someday I can do something similar with my family.

So far the new year has been amazing, I look forward to what’s to come. Cheers to the new year, talk soon.
